Lúnasa Farm

The story

Lúnasa Farm is a small, certified organic farm near Clarecastle in Co. Clare, producing 100% pasture-fed and finished beef — cattle that have never eaten grain, at any point in their lives. The farm is managed using holistic planned grazing, a system that mimics the natural movement of wild grazing animals and builds soil health through carefully managed rotational grazing across the farm's pastures.

The herd is small by commercial standards — and deliberately so. Lúnasa's model is whole-farm husbandry: knowing every animal, managing every field, and producing beef that reflects the quality of the land and the care put into it. The farm is certified by the Irish Organic Association, Ireland's leading organic certification body.

Why grass-fed and finished matters

Most "grass-fed" beef in Ireland is actually grain-finished — brought inside and fed grain for the final months before slaughter to add weight quickly. At Lúnasa, cattle are grass-fed for their entire lives, including the finish. This produces beef with higher omega-3 content, a more complex flavour, and a leaner profile than grain-finished equivalents.

Butchery and products

Lúnasa butchers fresh beef weekly at their whole-animal butchery in Clarecastle — and makes artisan products from the whole carcass, including natural sausages and nitrate-free rashers from their pasture-raised pork. Orders are DPD overnight nationwide. Free delivery on orders over €200; €20 flat rate below that. The shop also opens every Saturday 9am–1pm for direct farm collection.
