What a mark or logo proves on a Waterford beef pack
An identification mark, origin statement, quality-assurance logo and grass-fed logo can refer to different controls. Read each element for its stated scope instead of treating one symbol as proof of every claim.
The oval identification mark
FSAI explains that the identification mark on products of animal origin identifies the country and approval number of the establishment where the mark was applied. It supports establishment traceability. It does not by itself state the animal's farm, complete origin history, feeding method, welfare outcome or environmental performance.
The beef-origin fields
Read the batch or reference code, slaughter statement, cutting statement and origin wording together. An establishment in Waterford may handle beef with a separately stated origin; the county of processing or sale should not be substituted for the label's origin information.
A Bord Bia logo
Check the exact logo rather than referring to a generic “Bord Bia certified” product. Bord Bia publishes logo-use rules for different products and scopes. Read the current policy for the mark shown and ask the seller for product-specific evidence.
A grass-fed logo or statement
Ask which standard defines the claim and whether this product is eligible. Bord Bia's Grass Fed Beef Standard publishes its criteria, but a general description of the standard is not evidence that every Irish or Waterford product qualifies.
